MATTOON, Ill. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers season likely came to an end Tuesday night in the Midwest District Semi-Finals as the Lady Blazers fell 86-64 to Rend Lake. The Lady Blazers fell behind early in the first quarter, trailing by 11 points midway through the period. VU closed out the first quarter on an 8-2 scoring run as Vincennes trailed 19-14 after the first 10 minutes of play.

MATTOON, Ill. – The VU Lady Trailblazers began their postseason run Sunday night and advanced to the Midwest District Semi-Finals Tuesday night after defeating Kaskaskia College 79-75. Vincennes got off to a slow start offensively against the Blue Angels, quickly falling behind by 11 points early in the first quarter. The Lady Blazers would battle back and cut the deficit to five points at the end of the first period, trailing 22-17.

VINCENNES, Ind. – Vincennes University Lady Blazer guards sophomore Laila Grant (Derwood, Md.) and freshman Cherrelle Newsom (Indianapolis, Ind.) earned All-Region 24 honors Friday afternoon. Grant earned First-Team All-Region 24 honors and Newsom earned a Third-Team All-Region 24 spot. Grant earned a First-Team selection after leading the Lady Trailblazers by averaging 14.4 points per game.

VINCENNES, Ind. – VU freshman Trinitee Harris recorded her first career double-double of 14 points and a new career-high 13 rebounds Tuesday night in the Lady Blazers 76-74 win over Rend Lake in Vincennes’ regular season finale. What makes Harris’ accomplishment so impressive, is that she didn’t play a second in the first half. Harris finished with 14 points, 13 rebounds and a team-high four assists, all in the third and fourth quarters alone. Vincennes got off to a quick start against the Lady Warriors, scoring eight of the first nine points of the game to take an early seven point lead.

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers celebrated the VU careers of six sophomores Saturday night in style, hitting 15 of 29 three-point shots in the Lady Blazers 101-58 win over Olney Central. The Lady Blazers started four sophomores Saturday against the Blue Knights and early on the new lineup had trouble getting on the same page which allowed Olney Central to jump out to a quick five-point midway through the first quarter. VU responded to go on a 13-1 scoring run to take a 19-12 lead. Vincennes closed out the first quarter with a six-point advantage.

MT. CARMEL, Ill. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers struggled early in a road matchup with the highly-ranked Lady Warriors of Wabash Valley as the Warriors held a 28 point lead after the first quarter. Vincennes was able to fix a few things throughout the game but were unable to overcome the deficit as No. 5 Wabash Valley came away with the 83-40 win. Right from the tip, Wabash Valley had their foot on the gas Wednesday night. The Lady Warriors quickly scored on two layups in the first 30 seconds of action, forcing a VU timeout.

CARTERVILLE, Ill. – The VU Lady Trailblazers extended their winning streak to five after winning 85-63 over the Lady Vols of John A. Logan College Wednesday night. Five Lady Trailblazers, Cherrelle Newsom (Indianapolis, Ind.), Laila Grant (Derwood, Md.), Nina Blade (Milwaukee, Wis.), Kylee Shelton (Bloomfield, Ind.) and Elena Aznar (Zaragoza, Spain) scored in double figures as VU spread out their scoring attack to beat the host Lady Volunteers. VU got off to another slow start Wednesday night as the hometown John A. Logan squad opened the game on a 7-0 scoring run.

VINCENNES, Ind. – Nine days after VU played their last game the Lady Trailblazers battled tough at home to fend off the Lady Blue Storm of Southwestern Illinois College 76-59. Sophomore Macy Michels (Teutopolis, Ill.) recorded her sixth double-double of the season and her second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds in the Blazers win. VU started out of the gate slow after more than a week between games, as SWIC quickly built a 9-2 lead in the first quarter.

ROBINSON, Ill. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers hit the road Saturday afternoon to face-off against nearby rival Lincoln Trail College. The Lady Blazers used a 30-4 scoring run that ran from near the beginning of the first quarter and extending to midway through the second quarter to help give Vincennes the 76-58 road victory. VU got off to a slow start, turning the ball over on four of their first five possessions, giving the Lady Statesmen a quick 4-0 advantage.

CENTRALIA, Ill. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers traveled to Centralia, Ill. Wednesday night to face off against the Blue Angels of Kaskaskia College for the second time in just nine days. Vincennes fell behind early but battled back after falling behind by eight points to take the lead late in the third quarter and win 78-67 over Kaskaskia. Vincennes held a small lead midway through the first quarter, before Kaskaskia used a 6-0 scoring run to take a five point lead.

OLNEY, Ill. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers hit the road Saturday night to face-off against Region 24 opponent Olney Central. Vincennes got off to a fast start and continued to build their lead as the Lady Blazers came away with the 96-46 win. After the Lady Blue Knights scored the first two baskets of the game, Vincennes grabbed the lead with a 13-2 scoring run aided by a trio of three-point shots by freshman Cherrelle Newsom (Indianapolis, Ind.)

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers had their offense running in full swing Monday night when VU hosted the Blue Angels of Kaskaskia College. INA, Ill. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers hit the road Saturday afternoon and faced off against another team near the top of the Region 24 standings in Rend Lake College. Vincennes fell behind in the second quarter before battling back in the fourth quarter but were unable to overcome the Lady Warrior lead as Rend Lake won 84-74 over VU. The Lady Trailblazers got off to a fast start on the road, jumping out to a quick five point lead early in the first quarter.

VINCENNES, Ind. – The VU Lady Trailblazers hosted the No. 13-ranked Moberly Area Greyhounds Tuesday night in VU’s first game back from the Holiday break. Vincennes was unable to overcome a slow start in the first quarter as the Greyhounds came away with the 76-59 win over VU. The Lady Blazers held strong in the opening minutes of the game, keeping the margin within a basket with the No. 13-ranked Greyhounds.

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers closed out the first half of their season by hosting No. 12-ranked Wabash Valley at the P.E. Complex. The Lady Blazers fought all night against the Lady Warriors but ultimately suffered their first loss against a Region 24 opponent and their first and only loss in the month of December. VU went toe-to-toe with the highly-ranked Warriors, producing a back-and-forth battle in the first quarter that ended with freshman Cherrelle Newsom (Indianapolis, Ind.) hitting a three at the buzzer to cut the Vincennes deficit to one point.

VINCENNES, Ind. – The VU Lady Trailblazers extended their winning streak to six games after defeating Wayne County Community College from Detroit, Mich. Monday night at the P.E. Complex 69-63. Vincennes closed out their third win in three consecutive days with the help of VU freshmen Day’Lynn Thornton (Lafayette, Ind.) and Cherrelle Newsom (Indianapolis, Ind.) as Thornton led the Lady Blazers with a game-high 22 points and Newsom came through in clutch situations to end with 15 points. The Lady Trailblazers got off to a slow start in the first quarter, playing without two starters Trinitee Harris (Elkhart, Ind.) and Laila Grant (Derwood, Md.) who are serving two game suspensions after being ejected from yesterday’s win over Lewis & Clark.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers hit the road Sunday afternoon to take part in the St. Louis CC Classic against Lewis & Clark. VU fell behind in the second quarter and trailed by five at halftime before a lengthy third quarter scoring run propelled Vincennes to a 74-55 win over Lewis & Clark. Vincennes got off to a quick start early ending the first quarter with a 14-6 lead over the Trailblazers.

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers hosted John A. Logan College Saturday night at the P.E. Complex to tip-off a stretch of three games in three days for the Lady Blazers and came away with a hard fought 77-67 overtime win over the Lady Volunteers. Vincennes sophomore Laila Grant (Derwood, Md.) and freshman Cherrelle Newsom (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the charge for the Blue and Gold, with the duo combining for 48 points on the night. Grant led all scorers with 25 points, with a team-high five steals and Newsom finished with 23 points with a team-high five assists on the night.

ULLIN, Ill. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers picked up their fourth win away from the P.E. Complex Wednesday night when VU defeated Shawnee Community College 63-48. VU sophomore Nina Blade (Milwaukee, Wis.) finished with her first double-double on the season, ending with 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. The Lady Blazers got off to a hot start, opening the contest with a 12-0 scoring run. Shawnee would battle the rest of the first quarter as Vincennes held a 20-11 advantage after the first quarter.

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The VU Lady Trailblazers picked up their second Region 24 win Saturday afternoon, winning 90-54 at Southwestern Illinois College. Vincennes found themselves in a battle early with the two teams even at 10-all midway through the first quarter. The Lady Trailblazers closed out the opening quarter on an 11-2 scoring run to take a 21-12 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.

VINCENNES, Ind. – The VU Lady Trailblazers opened their Region 24 schedule by hosting Lincoln Trail College at the P.E. Complex Wednesday night and game away with a 76-68 win over the Lady Statesmen. Vincennes used a 20-3 scoring run to help put the game out of reach early and rode that momentum to the end giving the Lady Blazers the eight-point victory. VU jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, leading 10-3 midway through the first period, before Lincoln Trail rallied back with a 9-0 scoring run to take the lead.

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers hosted No. 4-ranked Three Rivers College Monday night with the Lady Blazers looking to get some payback from an 82-67 loss to the Lady Raiders earlier this year. Vincennes held their own against the top-ranked Raiders in the first period, with Vincennes holding a 10-8 lead late in the first period before Three Rivers began a 9-0 scoring run that stretched into the second quarter to take a seven-point lead. Three Rivers would continue to build on this lead throughout the second quarter, with their largest lead of the first half being 14 before Vincennes closed the gap to 30-18 at the break.

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers finished out the 2021 VU Classic with a commanding 89-40 win over Highland Community College Saturday night. Vincennes carried their momentum over from Friday night’s win over Indiana Tech JV, closing out the first quarter on a 12-0 scoring run to take a 22-7 lead after the first 10 minutes of play. VU outside shooters sophomore Laila Grant (Derwood, Md.) and freshman Cherrelle Newsom (Indianapolis, Ind.) got started early for the Trailblazers, with the pair accounting for three made three’s each in the first half.

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers opened the 2021 VU Classic with a strong victory on the home floor. Winning 91-24 over Indiana Tech JV. Vincennes finished with five scorers in double-figures, including four from the starting five. The Lady Trailblazers looked to set the tone early after falling on the road to Lindsey Wilson JV earlier this week and jumped out to a 16-2 lead to begin the game.

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers hit the road Tuesday night to face off against the Lindsey Wilson JV Blue Raiders. Lindsey Wilson took the lead early but were not quite able to pull away from Vincennes, with the Blue Raiders holding a one-point lead after the first quarter. Lindsey Wilson was able to expand their lead in the second quarter with a late scoring run to send the Lady Trailblazers into the locker room facing a 39-34 deficit.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers suffered their first two losses of the season over the weekend, falling to No. 6-ranked Three Rivers Community College 82-67 Friday night and 84-71 to No. 21-ranked Moberly Area Community College Saturday afternoon. The Trailblazers began the Lady Raider Classic by taking on host and No. 6-ranked Three Rivers Community College Friday night. Vincennes held tough and hung with the Raiders in the first half, leading midway through the second quarter, before Three Rivers closed out the half strong to take a 43-35 into the locker room.

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers finally got to play in front of the home crowd Tuesday afternoon as VU hosted Jefferson College from Hillsboro, Mo. Vincennes set the tone early, jumping out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter on some timely shooting from sophomores Laila Grant (Derwood, Md.) and Anete Bluma (Saldus, Latvia). The Trailblazers continued to cruise as they ended the first 10 minutes of play with a 27-16 lead on the scoreboard.

MOBERLY, Mo. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers began their 2021-22 campaign over the weekend and finished with a pair of wins over William Penn JV and John Wood Community College. VU began the season Friday by taking on William Penn JV. The Trailblazers got off to a slow start, only managing a two-point lead after the first quarter. Vincennes began to pick up speed offensively in the second quarter, when the Blazers used a 12-0 scoring run to expand the lead and take a 32-21 advantage into the locker room.
