VU got off to a red-hot start Tuesday night, riding the wave of three first quarter three-point makes by sophomore Cherrelle Newsom (Indianapolis, Ind.) the Lady Blazers quickly grabbed an early 16-8 lead. Vincennes would end the first period of play holding a 19-14 lead over the Lady Blue Storm, behind 11 points by Newsom in the first 10 minutes of play.

The Lady Warriors wasted little time setting the tone on their home floor, scoring 21 of the first 23 points of the game and going on to hold a 26-5 lead after the first quarter.

Vincennes got off to a quick start against the Lady Blue Storm, grabbing an early 20-12 lead before SWIC answered back late in the first quarter to close out the opening period on a 10-0 scoring run to lead VU 22-20 after 10 minutes of play. Southwestern Illinois continued to grow their lead in the second quarter, leading by seven at one point before the Lady Blazers took back the momentum of the game and closed out the first half of play on a 13-2 scoring run.

VU would come out of the locker room with a new defensive plan of attack and it worked to perfection as the Lady Blazers would outscore the Lady Warriors 48-20 in the second half to come away with the 78-50 victory. The first quarter began with the two teams trading baskets before the Lady Trailblazers were the first to break away with a 7-0 scoring run and end the first 10 minutes of play holding a 22-15 lead.

The day began with VU Director of Housing and Residential Life Brad Wolfe presenting VU Hall of Fame Head Coach Harry Meeks with a $300 check to be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The Lady Blazers wasted little time setting the tone against Olney Central, scoring the first eight points of the game and jumping out to a 14-3 lead. OCC picked things up offensively and answered back with a 7-0 scoring run of their own to cut the VU lead down to four.

The Lady Blazers caught fire from long range, hitting 13 three-point shots on their way to an 82-57 win over the Lady Pioneers. The day did not get off to a great start for the Blue and Gold, with Delta College opening the game on a 10-2 scoring run on their home floor.
