VINCENNES, Ind. – Heading into Thursday night’s NJCAA Division I Midwest District Semifinal matchup with the Rend Lake Warriors, the Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers had not lost a game since March 6. The massive 10-game winning streak did come to an end however, as the Lady Warriors picked up the 83-71 win at the P.E. Complex to advance to the Midwest District Championship game. All signs looked good for the Blazers early, after Rend Lake scored the first basket, VU went on a 14-4 scoring run to take a seven points lead midway through the first quarter.

Sophomore guards Amani Brown and Shaila Beeler come in as First Team All-Region 24 members and Reeva Hammelman comes away with Third Team honors, as well as being named the 2021 Sportsmanship Award winner in Region 24. Amani Brown leads the Lady Trailblazers this season, averaging 18.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game this season.

VU got the game started quickly, scoring the first four points of the game, before expanding their lead to 10-4 late in the first period.

The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers came away with the upset victory over No. 12-ranked Wabash Valley 78-74. The Lady Blazers took the lead early in the first quarter, jumping out to a narrow 10-7 advantage before Wabash Valley closed out the first 10 minutes of play on a 14-8 scoring run to lead by three at the first break. The second quarter showed how close a matchup this game truly was, as the two teams battled back-and-forth for every basket.

Vincennes avoided the trap of looking ahead to Thursday however, as the Lady Blazers finished off a convincing 97-53 win over SWIC. VU got the scoring started early, with Reeva Hammelman and Shaila Beeler connecting from long range to give the Blazers a quick 6-0 lead.

CENTRALIA, Ill. – The 2021 Vincennes University basketball season is beginning to wind down and the Lady Blazers took their show on the road for the final time this regular season to take on Kaskaskia College and VU came away with the 86-76 win. The Trailblazer offense got started early, feeding Alexis Radcliff under the basket on her way to nine points in the first quarter of play. Radcliff’s offensive showcase gave Vincennes the early 27-21 lead after 10 minutes of play. VU continued to push the tempo offensively in the second quarter, this time going through Amani Brown as the Trailblazers built a 52-42 halftime lead.

Logan. Brown got the Blazers started early, scoring 18 of VU’s 30 first quarter points as Vincennes led by 13 after the first 10 minutes of play. Freshman Brianna Raynor chipped in in the score column in the second quarter, coming off the bench to score 12 points.

Lady Trailblazers tip-off Region 24 play with road win over Olney Central

OLNEY, Ill. – The VU women’s basketball team has been busy lately, winning their third game in just five days Monday night against the Blue Knights of Olney Central, 70-62. Vincennes got off to a hot start, jumping out to a quick 8-1 advantage. The seven-point margin would hold for most of the game as the two teams traded baskets back-and-forth.

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers finally got to hit the floor at the P.E. Complex after nearly a year away and defended their home court accordingly with a strong 60-43 win over Mineral Area College. The two evenly matched teams battled hard, back and forth through the first quarter, with Mineral Area building a lead of six points before the Blazers answered to close the first quarter and take a 14-13 lead off a layup from sophomore guard Amani Brown.

VINCENNES, Ind. – Head Coach Harry Meeks is coming off being inducted into the NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame enters his 30th season patrolling the Vincennes sidelines and hopes to make 2021 a season to remember as he sits just nine wins away from 700 victories at Vincennes University. VU returns only one starter from the 2020 season in sophomore guard Amani Brown. Brown averaged 15.1 points and 3.4 assists last season and will look to build on that production as her role on the team grows.
