VU baseball falls behind early and drops road game at Volunteer State
GALLATIN, Tenn. – The Vincennes University Trailblazer baseball team continued their busy week after defeating Oakland City JV Tuesday night at Jerry Blemker Field by heading south to Gallatin to face off against Volunteer State Community College Wednesday afternoon. The Blazers fell behind early after surrendering five runs in the first two innings of play and ultimately fell to the host Pioneers by the final score of 16-3. Volunteer State wasted little time gaining the upper hand Wednesday afternoon, sending 17 batters to the plate in the first two innings and scoring 10 runs on five hits to grab the early lead.

The Blazers fell behind early after surrendering five runs in the first two innings of play and ultimately fell to the host Pioneers by the final score of 16-3.
Volunteer State wasted little time gaining the upper hand Wednesday afternoon, sending 17 batters to the plate in the first two innings and scoring 10 runs on five hits to grab the early lead.
Vincennes would get on the scoreboard in a big way in the third inning with a three-run home run by sophomore Colton Evans (Henderson, Ky.), his third of the season.
The Trailblazers would get things settled down before the Pioneers would pick up three runs in the fifth and three more runs in the sixth to finish off the 16-3 victory over VU.
Freshman Logan Medsker (Marshall, Ill.) got the start on the mound for the Trailblazers Wednesday afternoon and threw one-third of an inning, allowing five runs on one hit.
Freshman Jace Parnin (Fort Wayne, Ind.) entered from the pen to pick up the final two outs of the first and first out of the second inning, giving him one full inning of work, allowing five runs on four hits.
Sophomore Caleb Moore (St. Louis, Mo.) helped calm the Volunteer State bats, throwing three and one-third innings, falling one out short of his longest outing of his VU career. Moore allowed three runs on six hits and struck out two.
Freshman Christian Pinson (Elizabethtown, Ky.) and sophomore Eli Steimel (Sullivan, Ind.) would combine to throw the sixth inning, with Pinson allowing one run on no hits and striking out one and Steimel allowing one hit and striking out one.
The Trailblazers will return home for a big four-game weekend series at Jerry Blemker Field with Schoolcraft College from Livonia, Mich.
The weekend set will begin Friday, March 10 with a single, nine-inning game at 4 p.m. eastern. VU will host the Ocelots for a doubleheader Saturday, March 11 with the first game set to begin at 1 p.m. eastern and the final game of the weekend series will be Sunday, March 12 and will be a nine-inning game starting at 12 p.m. eastern.
This series will serve as a final tune up before the Trailblazers begin Mid-West Athletic Conference play the following weekend when VU will host Danville Area Community College at Jerry Blemker Field Saturday, March 18 at 2 p.m. eastern.
