MATTOON, Ill. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers season likely came to an end Thursday night when VU faced off against No. 12-ranked Wabash Valley College in the Region 24/Midwest District Championship at Lake Land College in Mattoon and falling 102-52. The Lady Warriors first broke away midway through the opening quarter when Wabash Valley used a 10-0 scoring run to take a 24-9 lead. VU would finish the first 10 minutes of play trailing the Warriors 28-12 before the WVC lead continued to grow in the second quarter with a 12-0 scoring run.

VU got off to a red-hot start Tuesday night, riding the wave of three first quarter three-point makes by sophomore Cherrelle Newsom (Indianapolis, Ind.) the Lady Blazers quickly grabbed an early 16-8 lead. MT. CARMEL, Ill. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers closed out the 2022-23 regular season Saturday afternoon with a short trip to No. 12-ranked Wabash Valley. Vincennes ends the regular season with a record of 19-10 after falling to the Lady Warriors 107-60. The Lady Warriors wasted little time setting the tone on their home floor, scoring 21 of the first 23 points of the game and going on to hold a 26-5 lead after the first quarter.

VU would come out of the locker room with a new defensive plan of attack and it worked to perfection as the Lady Blazers would outscore the Lady Warriors 48-20 in the second half to come away with the 78-50 victory. The first quarter began with the two teams trading baskets before the Lady Trailblazers were the first to break away with a 7-0 scoring run and end the first 10 minutes of play holding a 22-15 lead.

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers once again partnered with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund for the 10th Play 4 Kay game at VU. The day began with VU Director of Housing and Residential Life Brad Wolfe presenting VU Hall of Fame Head Coach Harry Meeks with a $300 check to be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Newsom surpasses two-time NJCAA All-American Ashley Buis who set the record back in 2010. Newsom also moved into a tie with Chelsea Jellison for most three-pointers in a single season in VU history Wednesday night with 88 long range makes on the year.

The Lady Blazers got off to a slow start after the long bus trip to Ullin, with the Lady Saints jumping out to an early 9-2 lead in the first quarter. Vincennes would immediately wake up and battle back in a big way, outscoring the Saints 24-2 to roll into the halftime break holding a 28-15 lead.

VINCENNES, Ind. – Vincennes University sophomore Cherrelle Newsom (Indianapolis, Ind.) has now hit 11 three-pointers in her last two games, hitting five at Lincoln Trail Wednesday night before adding six more Saturday afternoon in VU’s 93-75 win over Rend Lake College at the P.E. Complex. Newsom’s 148 career three-point makes puts her fifth all-time in VU Lady Trailblazers program history and is quickly closing in on the top spot of 171 set by Ashley Buis in 2010. ROBINSON, Ill. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers got off to a hot start on the road Saturday night against Lincoln Trail College, scoring 16 of the first 20 points of the game and held off a second-half comeback by the Lady Statesmen to pick up the 68-59 Region 24 win. Complex. VU welcomed back freshman center Elikya Baseyila (Paris, France) who had been sidelined with an injury for a month and Baseyila wasted little time getting back into game shape with a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double. Her fifth of the season. The Lady Greyhounds took control of the game early, answering an early basket by the Blazers with a 9-0 scoring run.

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers hit double digits in the win column just before the Holiday break after a Wednesday afternoon road showdown with Delta College. The Lady Blazers caught fire from long range, hitting 13 three-point shots on their way to an 82-57 win over the Lady Pioneers. The day did not get off to a great start for the Blue and Gold, with Delta College opening the game on a 10-2 scoring run on their home floor.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers continued a long stretch of road games on their schedule Saturday afternoon when VU hit the road to face NJCAA Division II No. 14-ranked Parkland College. Vincennes fell behind early in the first quarter and were unable to make up the deficit as the Cobras came away with the 71-61 victory. The host Cobras wasted little time gaining the upper hand Saturday afternoon, opening the game on a 13-2 scoring run and closing out the first 10 minutes of play with a 16-5 advantage over the Lady Blazers.

CARTERVILLE, Ill. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers picked up a strong Region 24 road victory Wednesday night at John A. Logan College, defeating the host Lady Vols 81-62. VU grabbed a big 31-point halftime lead over the Volunteers behind a 24-0 second quarter scoring run. The Lady Blazers got off to a slow start, falling behind by five early in the first quarter, before battling back to end the first 10 minutes of play with a 17-16 lead.

HILLSBORO, Mo. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers were on the road Saturday afternoon in a rematch of an early season meeting with the Lady Vikings of Jefferson College. The Lady Blazers trailed by as many as 28 before rallying back in the fourth quarter but ultimately ran out of time as the Lady Vikings got their revenge on their home floor winning over VU 60-56. Vincennes got off to a quick start at Jefferson, jumping out to an early five-point lead before the host Vikings quickly rallied back to take the lead.

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers looked to get back on track in their Region 24 schedule Wednesday night in the Physical Education Complex when VU hosted Shawnee Community College. The Lady Blazers entered the fourth quarter in a 49-49 tie with the Lady Saints before coming away with the 73-68 win over Shawnee. VU got off to a slow start Wednesday against the Saints, falling behind by eight points late in the first quarter before closing out the first 10 minutes on a 5-0 scoring run to cut the deficit to 19-16 after the first period.

OLNEY, Ill. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers were hit with a few injuries this week heading into their Region 24 showdown at Olney Central Saturday. The Lady Blazers only had eight active players against the Lady Knights but fell at the end by the final score of 72-69. Vincennes fell behind early against host OCC, trailing by as many as six in the opening quarter, before rallying back late to cut the deficit to just one point after the first.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers hit the road Tuesday night looking to get revenge on Three Rivers College but came up just short with the Blazers falling 78-70. The VU Lady Blazers got off to a slow start Tuesday night, trailing the host Raiders by 10 points after the first 10 minutes of play. The Raiders grabbed their largest lead of the half at 12 to start the second quarter, before the Blazers rallied back late to even the game with an 8-0 scoring run.
