Trailblazers sweep top spots at golf tournament

WHITTINGTON, Ill. –Vincennes University sophomores Bryce Kirchner and Matt Jordan earned a 1-2 finish in an 18-hole tournament on Oct. 3 at Rend Lake Golf Course.

Kirchner won the tourney by shooting an even-par 72. Jordan fired a 74 for runner-up honors.

Other individual scores from VU: sophomore Noah Crays (86), sophomore Brock Craney (86), and freshman Lucas Beard (86).

The Trailblazers shot 318 as a team and finished in a two-way tie with Rend Lake for second place.

VU Golf Coach Dennis Chattin says. . .

"I was very proud of Bryce's effort in winning the tournament. He was literally playing his first 18 holes since being released from the doctor for a wrist injury. We didn't get a chance to have a practice round on the course. So it was just a really great score!"

"Matt Jordan's score was also a great one finishing second with his 2-over par 74. Likewise, Matt did not get to see all of the course with no practice round, so it was really impressive beating both Rend Lake players and John A. Logan players most of whom had played this course several times. It's a real advantage to play a course in golf. We don't play on the "same court or field" like most sports. A golf course changes with the setup of holes on greens, distance and weather conditions."
