Jordan wins VU Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Ind. – Vincennes University sophomore golfer Matt Jordan captured the individual title at the VU Invitational with a career-best performance on Monday and helped the Trailblazers finish second in the one-day, 36-hole tournament at Country Oaks Golf Course.

Jordan (Franklin, Ind.) was joined in the top three by VU sophomore Bryce Kirchner (North Vernon, Ind.).

Jordan finished at the top of the leaderboard with a career-best 1-under-par 143. He shot rounds of 72 and 71.

Kirchner placed third. He carded a 77 and 75 for a two-round total of 152.

Other VU scores:
Sophomore Noah Crays (83-78 161)
Freshman Lucas Beard (85-79 164)
Sophomore Brock Craney (84-83) 167

VU finished second with a two-round score of 619 (316-303) ahead of Danville and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. Lincoln Trail won with a 613 (309-304).

The tournament got off to a very cold start and was delayed 45 minutes due to frost.

VU Golf Coach Dennis Chattin says. . .

"I was extremely pleased with Matt Jordan's career-best 1-under-par for two rounds winning performance. Country Oaks plays over 6,900 yards so it isn't extremely short, but Matt really played well. He has increased his greens in regulation and improved his putting to put together a great tournament.

"Bryce Kirchner also had a good tournament finishing third overall with a 77-75 performance."

"I was also happy that our second round improved to a 303 which was the low round and a nice improvement from the first round."

"Quail Creek was a host of PGA events back in the 1970s, but it is still a very good test. Our guys will have to tune up the putting stroke to compete well at that course."
