Trailblazer baseball split home half of weekend series with Danville Area

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University baseball team hosted the first half of their second MWAC conference series Saturday against Danville Area and game away with a two-game split.

In game one Saturday afternoon, the Jaguars jumped out to the early lead, scoring in the top of the first.

VU responded with four runs in the second and one in the third to take a 5-1 lead.

Danville and Vincennes each added a pair of runs in the fourth and the Jaguars took the lead back in the fifth after scoring five runs to take an 8-7 lead.

The tie was broken when Danville Area pushed a run across in the top of the eighth and finished off the conference win by the score of 9-7.

The Trailblazers sent Gehrig Tenhumberg to the mound to start game one and he lasted five and two-thirds innings, giving up six runs on four hits and striking out three.

Tenhumberg was relieved by Parker Watts, who threw an inning and a third, giving up three runs on three hits and punching out one batter.

Luke Osborn was also send to the mound by the Trailblazers and pitched two innings of one hit baseball, with one strikeout.

Danville Area again took the early lead in game two of the four-game set, scoring two runs in the first inning.

The Trailblazers responded to take the lead back by scoring one in the third and two in the fourth.

Danville quickly grabbed the lead back with a pair of runs in the fifth.

Vincennes picked up their third conference win of the season in walk-off fashion, scoring two in the bottom of the seventh to take the 5-4 win.

Trailblazer hurler Cooper Thacker had an impressive day on the bump, throwing six innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and striking out 10 batters.

Connor VanLannen pitched in relief in the seventh, giving up one hit and striking out one on his way to the win.

The series now shifts to Danville, Ill. for the final two games of the four-game set Sunday, March 29. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. eastern.
