Tenhumberg’s shutout boosts Trailblazers to doubleheader sweep of Milwaukee Area Tech

VINCENNES, Ind. - The Vincennes University baseball team (10-4) won two games vs Milwaukee Area Tech (6-2) Saturday by the scores of 5-0 and 14-4 (6 innings).

In game one RHP RS freshman Gehrig Tenhumberg (3-0) pitched a complete game shut out to earn his third win of the year.

He threw 7 innings allowing 4 hits, did not walk anyone and struck out 7.

Offensively the Trailblazers scored five runs in the first two innings.  2B sophomore Trent Weiss (0-2 with 2 walks and run scored) walked in the first followed up FR RS freshman Isaac Lane (0-2 HBP, run scored) getting hit by a pitch.  

RS freshman Macaine Claycomb (1-3, double, 2 RBI's) then doubled off the center field fence driving in Weiss and Lane.  An error by the RF off freshman C Garrett Lawson bat allowed Claycomb to score.  

In the bottom of the second inning sophomore 3B Max Flock (2-2, HR, run scored, RBI and a walk) lead off with a home run (1) to CF.  Freshman DH Connor VanLannen (1-3, run scored) then had bunt single and later scored on wild pitch to give VU a 5-0 lead after two innings.

In game two the Trailblazers put up 14 runs and were paced by RS sophomore RF Isaac Lane, who was 2-3 scoring 2 runs and driving in 4 RBI's and had a double.  

CF freshman Colin Long was 1-4 with 3 runs scored a HBP and walk. 2B Trent Weiss was 3-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.  RS freshman Devon Rodgers 2-3 with 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, and a home run (1).

1B Macaine Claycomb had a double and RBI. RS freshman Gage Wilson had bases loaded walk and RBI. Sophomore PH Nolan Clark was 1-1 with an RBI. Sophomore DH/P Sam Steimel had double. RS freshman PH Ross Kirkland was 1-1 with a run scored.

On the mound RHP freshman Cooper Thacker started the game and went 1.2 innings allowing four runs , three earned runs on four hits, walked two and struck out three.  

Sophomore RHP Sam Steimel came on in relief threw 4.1 innings allowing no runs on three hits, walked two and struck out one.

The Trailblazers will hit the road next week as VU travels to Olney Central to take on the Blue Knights Tuesday, March 16. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. eastern.
