  • Broce qualifies for Nationals, Blazers take 6th at Region 24 Tournament

    BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Vincennes University Golf team closed out the 2024 Region 24 tournament Tuesday at Weibring Golf Course in Bloomington, Ill. The two-day, 54-hole tournament got off to a rocky start, with the opening round Monday being delayed by rain and moving the second round of the tournament to be played on Tuesday. VU freshman Alex Nealis (Olney, Ill.) got off to a great start to the tournament Monday in the opening round, shooting a first round two-over 73 to leave him in a tie for ninth place after the first day.
  • Broce wins, Blazers take third at 2024 VU Spring Invitational

    MONTGOMERY, Ind. – Vincennes University sophomore Preston Broce (Indianapolis, Ind.) used the home course to his advantage over the weekend as he posted the lowest score at the two-day 2024 VU Spring Invitational at Country Oaks Golf Course in Montgomery. Broce was off to another great start in the opening round Saturday, posting a three-over 75, which put him one shot back of the leader. Broce then returned Sunday morning to shoot and even par 72 in the final round, giving him a tournament total of 147 and claiming his first collegiate tournament victory at Vincennes University.
  • VU Golf team takes third at Battle of the Woods

    TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Vincennes University golf team got their top two scorers back this weekend for the two-day Battle of the Woods tournament at Hulman Links in Terre Haute. While they were still battling lingering injuries, the Trailblazers showed tremendous improvement on another tough course in windy conditions to come away with a third-place finish as a team. The two-day, 36-hole tournament began Saturday morning with the first round and the Blazers looked to be in great shape after the first 18 holes of the tournament.
  • VU Golf continues to battle in poor conditions

    NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – The Vincennes University Golf team had another tough tournament this week at the 2024 Garn Championships hosted at the Keene Trace Golf Club Monday and Tuesday. The Blazers battled through wind and rain to place 21st on a very challenging golf course, which hosts the PGA’s Barbasol Championship each July. The first two rounds of this 54-hole tournament were scheduled to be played on Monday, but round two ultimately needed to be finished Tuesday morning due to darkness.

    ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. – The Vincennes University Golf team opened their 2024 Spring season earlier this week, heading down to Adairsville, Ga. to take part in the Battle at Barnsley at the Barnsley Resort. The VU golf team faced some early season struggles, while also battling tough conditions of wind and cold on a tough golf course. The Blazers closed out the 54-hole, two-day tournament Tuesday afternoon with a 12th place finish.
  • Nealis finishes Top-10 at unique Rend Lake Fall Invitational

    WHITTINGTON, Ill. – The Vincennes University golf team was short handed earlier this week when the Blazers headed to the Rend Lake Golf Course in Whittington, Ill. for the 2023 Rend Lake College Fall Invitational. Entering this tournament without sophomore Aaron Brink (Nashville, Ill.) who injured his wrist last tournament, VU Hall of Fame Golf Coach Dennis Chattin looked to see who would be the one to step up in his place. The tournament was a two-day, 54-hole tournament, consisting of two 27-hole days as Rend Lake Golf Course includes three nine-hole courses.
  • VU Golf takes fifth at Mid-West Athletic Conference Fall Preview

    BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Vincennes University golf team got their first look at the course hosting the Mid-West Athletic Conference tournament in the spring this week, traveling to Crestwicke Country Club in Bloomington, Ill. The Blazers came away with a fifth-place finish in the 36-hole, one day event, in a closely packed leaderboard. VU sophomore Preston Broce (Indianapolis, Ind.) was the low-man for the Blazers Monday, coming up with his third top-10 finish of the fall season after shooting a four-over 76 in round one and a six-over 78 in round two, good for seventh place overall.

    DANVILLE, Ill. – The 2023 Vincennes University fall golf season continues to roll on as the Blazers took part in the one-day, 36-hole Danville Invitational at the Danville Country Club Monday. VU had a very good showing with three Trailblazer golfers placing in the top 12 for the tournament. Vincennes was led by sophomore Preston Broce (Indianapolis, Ind.) who came out firing in the first round of the day, shooting an even par 71.
  • Broce places Top-10 as Blazers host VU Fall Invitational Tournament

    MONTGOMERY, Ind. – The Vincennes University golf team is beginning to pick up steam for the 2023 Fall season as the Trailblazers host the 2023 VU Fall Invitational at Country Oaks Golf Club in Montgomery Saturday, Sept. 9 and Sunday, Sept. 10. Sophomore Preston Broce (Indianapolis, Ind.) headlined the Trailblazers during the tournament, placing eighth overall after two rounds of one-over par 73, giving him a tournament score of 146. Freshman Alex Nealis (Olney, Ill.) was the next VU scorer, shooting a first round 75 on Saturday and a 77 on Sunday to place 19th overall.
  • 21 Trailblazers named to NJCAA All-Academic Teams

    VINCENNES, Ind. – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced their 2022-23 All-Academic Teams Monday morning and the list of over 10,000 student-athletes featured 21 Vincennes University Trailblazers. VU had six student-athletes named to the All-Academic First Team, earning a GPA of 4.00 during the 2022-23 academic year. Eight student-athletes were named to the Second Team with a GPA between 3.80 and 3.99 and seven named to the Third Team with a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79. Vincennes University and the VU Athletic Department are proud of the hard work and dedication these student-athletes have shown not only on the competition field, but in the classroom as well.
  • VU Golfer Luke VanDeventer to play next season at Huntington University

    VINCENNES, Ind. – Vincennes University sophomore Luke VanDeventer (Columbus, Ind.) announced Wednesday morning that he will be continuing his collegiate golf career next season at NAIA Huntington University in Huntington, Ind. “What led me to commit to Huntington was the opportunity to continue my education and golf career at a very high level,” VanDeventer said. VanDeventer is coming off two very good seasons with the VU golf team under NJCAA Hall of Fame Head Coach Dennis Chattin. Luke finished his freshman season with a scoring average of 81.7 and posted a 78.7 average this past season.
  • 30 Trailblazer student-athletes named to Spring 2023 VU Dean’s List

    VINCENNES, Ind. – 30 Vincennes University student athletes were recognized Friday morning with the release of the Vincennes University Dean’s List for the Spring 2023 semester. To be recognized on this list, each student must be enrolled in at least 21 credit hours and earn a grade point average of 3.50 or high during the Spring semester. The Vincennes University Athletic Department is proud to recognize the following student-athletes named to the Spring 2023 Dean’s List.

    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Vincennes University Golf season ended Tuesday afternoon at the 2023 Region 24 Championships hosted at Pfau Golf Course in Bloomington. The Blazers finished sixth as a team after facing very strong winds throughout the two-day tournament. Vincennes was led by sophomore Luke VanDeventer (Columbus, Ind.) who overcame a slow start with an opening round 89 to shoot a team tournament low 78 in the second round Monday afternoon.
  • Trailblazers get two Top-10 finishers at VU Spring Invitational

    MONTGOMERY, Ind. – Sophomore Paxton Schwomeyer (Oakland City, Ind.) recorded yet another Top-Five finish over the weekend at the VU Spring Invitational hosted at Country Oaks Golf Course in Montgomery. Schwomeyer was joined in the Top-10 by fellow sophomore Luke VanDeventer (Columbus, Ind.) as VanDeventer placed in a tie for seventh overall. Schwomeyer led the Trailblazers by setting the tone Saturday in the opening round with a four-over 76, before coming back Sunday morning to finish with a five-over 77 in the final round.
  • Broce takes second, Blazers finish third at Region 24 preview

    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Vincennes University golf team hosted a practice round Monday at the Pfau Course in Bloomington, which will be the host of the 2023 Region 24 Golf Tournament on Monday, May 1 and Tuesday, May 2. The teams hit the course for an 18-hole preview to get a feel for what the course was like before the big tournament in May and the Trailblazers looked to be in a good position. VU freshman Preston Broce (Indianapolis, Ind.) set the lowest score for the Blazers Monday, finishing with a six-over 77 and finishing in a three-way tie for second place overall.
  • Trailblazer golf continues to have good season in tough conditions

    NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – The Vincennes University golf team was on the road again this week, competing in the Garn Championships at the Keene Trace Golf Course in Nicholasville Monday and Tuesday. The Trailblazers were the only two-year school competing in this 19-team tournament and held their own with consistent scoring to place 16th overall. In a tournament field of just over 100 individual golfers, Vincennes was already playing short-handed when freshman Aaron Brink (Nashville, Ill.) suffered an injury in the practice round Sunday and had to withdraw from the tournament.
  • Schwomeyer overcomes slow start to tie for top spot at LTC Spring Invitational

    ROBINSON, Ill. – VU sophomore Paxton Schwomeyer (Oakland City, Ind.) had one of his best tournaments as a Trailblazer Wednesday afternoon in the 27-hole Lincoln Trail College Spring Invitational at Quail Creek Country Club in Robinson. Schwomeyer got off to a slow start to the tournament, taking a triple bogey on his second hole of the day, but was able to regroup and power through to finish the day with a 27-hole score of 119 and end in a five-way tie for first place on the leaderboard. Schwomeyer shot an 82 in the full 18 hole round and followed that with an impressive one-over 37 in the final nine holes.
  • VU Golf shows steady improvement in Spring season opener

    SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – The 2023 Vincennes University Golf team began their Spring schedule earlier this week by taking part in the Goosepond Spring Fling at Goosepond Colony in Alabama. The first two rounds of this 54-hole tournament took place Monday, with the teams returning to the course for the third round Tuesday. The Trailblazers got off to a slow start in the opening round of the tournament, with VU as a team shooting a 323, which placed them seventh out of eight teams competing.

    MONTGOMERY, Ind. – The Vincennes University golf team continued their consistent play this fall season at the two-day VU Fall Invitational at Country Oaks Golf Course Saturday and Sunday. The VU ‘Gold’ Team shot an opening round 305 Saturday afternoon and battled some tough conditions Sunday morning to shoot a 306. The VU ‘Blue’ Team began the tournament with a 315 on Saturday, before coming back to take five shots off their score for a second round 310 on Sunday.

    INA, Ill. – The Fall 2022 VU Golf season continues to pick up steam as the Trailblazers took part in their second tournament of the year Tuesday at the Rend Lake College Fall Invitational at Rend Lake Golf Course in Ina, Ill. VU battled in the one-day, 36-hole tournament to finish fourth as a team with a team score of 627. Vincennes was led on the links by sophomore Paxton Schwomeyer (Oakland City, Ind.) who shot a very consistent 152 for the tournament, hitting a 76 in each round to place himself in a tie for fifth on the leaderboard.
  • Schwomeyer places top-10 as Trailblazer Golf begins Fall season at Heartland Invitational

    NORMAL, Ill. – Vincennes University sophomore Paxton Schwomeyer (Oakland City, Ind.) came away with a top-10 finish Monday afternoon as the Trailblazers began their Fall 2022 Golf season at the Heartland Invitational at Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Ill. Schwomeyer ended his day with a first round 78 and a final round 74 in the one-day 36-hole tournament, which left him in a tie for ninth place on the leaderboard. Sophomore Luke VanDeventer (Columbus, Ind.) was the next lowest VU scorer, shooting a first round 79 and a final round 80 for a tie for 23rd.
  • 18 VU Trailblazers named to NJCAA All-Academic Team

  • VU sophomore Bryce Kirchner represents Trailblazer golf well at Nationals

    JOPLIN, Mo. – Vincennes University sophomore golfer Bryce Kirchner (North Vernon, Ind.) earned a trip out to the NJCAA Division II National Championships for the second straight year and held his own well against some of the best in the country. Kirchner began the four-day 72-hole tournament out with a tough first round Tuesday at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club. The All-Region 24 honoree’s first round ended with a nine-over 81, which left him in a tie for 79th place on the leaderboard.
  • Vincennes University Golf Coach Dennis Chattin to be inducted into NJCAA Golf Hall of Fame

    VINCENNES, Ind. – The NJCAA Men’s Golf Coaches Association announced their 2022 Hall of Fame class and of the six names list was VU Head Coach Dennis Chattin. “It is very humbling to think that I will be in ‘The Hall’,” Chattin said. “Just this year alone, to see my name with those that are being inducted is hard to believe, let alone those that have been inducted over the years. I hope this will elevate the visibility of our golf program at VU. It makes me feel as though I should have done more to have earned this.” Coach Chattin has guided the VU Men’s Golf program since 2003 and has led the Trailblazers to three NJCAA Division III National Championships in six years, in 2013, 2016 and 2018.
  • Kirchner qualifies for Nationals, Trailblazers place sixth at Region 24 Championships

    CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Vincennes University sophomore Bryce Kirchner (North Vernon, Ind.) qualified for the NJCAA Division II National Championships for the second year in a row after his performance at the Region 24 Championships at Dalhousie Golf Course Monday and Tuesday. The Trailblazers as a team continued to improve as the 54-hole tournament continued, with the team taking 10 shots off their score in the three round tournament. Vincennes struggled out of the gate in the first round Monday with Kirchner setting the pace with an opening round 81.
  • Kirchner, Schwomeyer medal as VU places second at Spring Invitational

    MONTGOMERY, Ind. – Vincennes University sophomore Bryce Kirchner (North Vernon, Ind.) and freshman Paxton Schwomeyer (Oakland City, Ind.) finished in the top-three on the leaderboard at this weekend’s Vincennes University Spring Invitational at Country Oaks Golf Club in Montgomery. Kirchner placed second with a first round 75 on Saturday and an 80 on Sunday. Schwomeyer finished two shots back in third after a 77 Saturday and an 80 on Sunday after battling the windy conditions all weekend. “Bryce has been steady all year long for us,” VU Golf Coach Dennis Chattin said. “He won the last tournament, really wanted to win this one obviously too. Both Bryce and Paxton caught a gust of wind on 13 today that put their ball out of bounds and both guys had two holes that basically ruined their rounds. Bryce played 16 holes at one-over and the other two holes today he had a triple and a quadruple bogey, which are not the types of things that Bryce Kirchner normally does.”
  • Kirchner picks up tournament win at Lincoln Trail Spring Invitational

    ROBINSON, Ill. – Vincennes University sophomore and 2021 NJCAA National Qualifier Bryce Kirchner (North Vernon, Ind.) came away with the top-spot on the leaderboard at Monday’s Lincoln Trail Spring Invitational golf tournament at Quail Creek Country Club in Robinson. Kirchner finished with a very consistent 36-hole tournament, ending with a 74 in round one, before rallying up the leaderboard with a 74 in round two. “Bryce had a great performance, winning the tournament by two shots,” VU Golf Coach Dennis Chattin said. “Bryce played great Monday and was three under par in his second round and still finished with a two-shot win. Bryce has been working very hard at his game and is deserving of the win.”
  • Trailblazer Golf has important learning experience at Region 24 Spring Preview

    CAPE GIRARDEU, Mo. – The Vincennes University Trailblazer Golf team took part in a quick practice round at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo. for the Region 24 Spring Tournament Preview Friday morning. The Trailblazers were able to gain helpful and useful knowledge of the course ahead of the Region 24 Championship Tournament to be played during the first weekend of May. Vincennes was led on the scorecard by sophomore Bryce Kirchner (North Vernon, Ind.) who finished with a six-over 78 on the round, which placed him in a tie for seventh overall.
  • Vincennes University Golf competes at Garn Championships

    NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – The Vincennes University Golf team took part in the Spring Arbor University Garn Championships earlier this week at The Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Ky. The first day of the two-day tournament began after a two-hour delay due to frost. The opening day of play was originally going to be the first two rounds of the 54-hole tournament, but the field was unable to finish the second round and the tournament had to be suspended due to darkness.
  • Kirchner leads Trailblazers to Third-Place finish at Rend Lake Spring Invitational

    WEST FRANKFORT, Ill. – The Vincennes University Trailblazer golf team finished off another third-place finish Sunday at the Rend Lake College Spring Invitational, hosted at Franklin Co. Country Club in West Frankfort, Ill. The tournament was shortened to a one-day 36-hole event held Sunday. Vincennes placed third for the second time this season. Vincennes was paced by sophomore Bryce Kirchner (North Vernon, Ind.) who finished with a five-over 147 for the tournament after shooting a 73 in the first round of the day and a 74 in the afternoon.
