VU is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, an organization that promotes and fosters junior college athletics on intersectional and national levels so that results will be consistent with the total educational program of its member colleges.
The NJCAA began in 1938, thanks to the leadership and vision of several coaches and administrators at 13 two-year colleges in California. A constitution was developed and presented at the charter meeting in Fresno, CA, on May 14, 1938, and once it was accepted, the National Junior College Athletic Association became a functioning organization.
