Lady Blazers come up short in rematch with Mineral Area College

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes Lady Trailblazers closed out the 2023 VU Lady Blazer Classic Saturday night with a rematch against Mineral Area College from Park Hills, Mo.

The Lady Blazers fell to the Lady Cardinals 85-74 at the 2023 Orscheln Classic in Moberly, Mo. in just the second game of the season and looked to avenge this loss in front of the home crowd.

VU got off to an excellent start against the Lady Cards, using an 8-0 scoring run to take a 12-7 lead and closing out the first quarter of play on a 13-4 run to finish with a 25-13 after the first 10 minutes of play.

Mineral Area looked to bounce back in the second quarter, scoring the first seven points of the period to cut the Vincennes lead down to five.

Mineral Area would later use an 8-0 scoring run to take the lead at 36-35 as the two teams closed out the first half of play going back and forth and Mineral Area holding a 40-39 advantage of the Blazers.

The Lady Cardinals looked to really take control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Blazers 23-10 in the third quarter of play to take a 63-49 lead heading into the fourth.

Vincennes looked to rally back late in the fourth quarter but were unable to cut into the Lady Cardinals lead.

Mineral Area closed out the game with a 9-0 run to finish off the 82-58 victory over the Lady Blazers.

VU was led offensively by another big game by sophomore Elikya Baseyila (Paris, France) who just missed out on a double-double off the bench with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Freshman Taylor Guess (Indianapolis, Ind.) also just missed out on a double-double with nine points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Freshman Karina Scott (Noblesville, Ind.) also finished her night with nine points on three made threes and a pair of steals.

Sophomore Maycee Lange (Vincennes, Ind.) got the Lady Blazers going early and finished with eight points and five rebounds.

The Lady Trailblazers will return to the Physical Education Complex floor Monday, Nov. 20 to close out a stretch of three games in four days against Wayne County Community College from Detroit, Mich. Tip-off time Monday is set for 5 p.m. eastern.
