Chris Barney will begin his 15th season with VU Blazer Baseball in 2023-24. He led VU to its first ever appearance in the NJCAA Div. II World Series in 2010 and guided the Trailblazers back to the national tournament in 2014. VU won its first game of the 2014 World Series.

Over the past thirteen years, the Trailblazers have sent more than 105 players on to continue their diamond careers at four-year programs and 27 players have signed with NCAA Div. I schools such as Alcorn State, Indiana, Indiana State, Dayton, Purdue- Fort Wayne, Purdue, Ball State, Ohio University, Morehead State, Stetson, University of Evansville, Eastern Kentucky, Western Illinois, University of South Alabama, and High Point after completing their VU careers. Three Trailblazer players were named NJCAA All-Americans.

Coach Barney has amassed an impressive collegiate and professional coaching resume' over the past three decades, including 13 years as an assistant and the recruiting coordinator at the University of Southern Indiana. His previous head coaching duties included heading up the Quincy Gems and Springfield Rifles of the Central Illinois League. After starting his career as an assistant with his alma mater Tennessee Wesleyan in 1989, Coach Barney has been an assistant coach with the Mid-West Sliders of the Frontier League and at Tusculum College in Greeneville, TN. In addition, he has been on the staffs of the New England Collegiate League's Vermont Mountaineers and St. John's River College in Palatka, FL.

Chris Barney is married to Cindy Barney (formerly Meeks) of Oaktown, IN and currently have 3 children Emily 13, Cohen 10, and Carson 8 currently residing in Vincennes, IN.
