Blazer DJ Brewton commits to return to Alcorn State next season
VINCENNES, Ind. – Trailblazer guard DJ Brewton announced on twitter Tuesday night that he will be returning to Alcorn State University in Mississippi. “Alcorn State has been consistent throughout the year recruiting me,” Brewton said of his decision. “They were considerate of the injury I’ve been fighting since late December.” Brewton helped guide the Blazers to a 17-7 record during the 2021 season and led VU to their record-setting ninth-straight NJCAA National Championship tournament appearance.

Brewton helped guide the Blazers to a 17-7 record during the 2021 season and led VU to their record-setting ninth-straight NJCAA National Championship tournament appearance.
"My time at Vincennes has taught me more discipline and how to fight adversity," Brewton added. "The coaching staff held me to a level of accountability that I wasn't used to."
Brewton averaged 9.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and three assists per game in his only season with the Blue and Gold.
Brewton had a double-double against Lake Land early in the 2021 season, finishing with 10 points and 14 rebounds and scored in double-figures in 11 of his 22 games played, including a Trailblazer career-high 17 points in the District Championship game at John A. Logan.
Brewton returns to the Braves where as a freshman he averaged 7.3 points per game and helped Alcorn State finish the 2019-20 season with a 15-15 record.
Brewton scored 23 points in Alcorn's game at Grambling State, setting his Braves career-high in points.
"Hopefully Trailblazer fans remember me for what I continue to do after Vincennes," Brewton said.
Brewton is the second member of the 2021 VU men's basketball team to commit to playing for a Division I school next season, joining Randy Tucker who announced he will be playing at Wisconsin-Green Bay.
